Ministry Overview

The Boys’ Brigade was founded by Sir William Alexander Smith in 1883 in Glasgow, Scotland. It was the world’s first uniformed youth organization and has spread all over the world with companies in over 60 countries. The BB was introduced to Singapore in 1930 by Mr James Milner Fraser with the 1st Singapore Company established in Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church. Today, there are over 80 companies, with the President of the Replublic of Singapore as the patron of The Boys Brigade in Singapore.

The Object of The Boys’ Brigade is: The advancement of Christ's Kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true Christian Manliness.

The 30th Singapore Company

The 30th Singapore Company was formed in 1978 by Rev Dr Daniel Lee Kok Pheng, together with 14 GMC members who serve as pioneer officers. It is recognized as an uniformed youth organization by the Ministry of Education.

LTA Joseph Loy is the Captain, assisted by a dedicated team of 9 officers, 1 teacher-advisor and 3 teachers. Rev Wilfred Leow serves as Chaplain with Mr Cheang Cheng San as Assistant Chaplain. Current enrolment stands at 43 boys from Bukit Merah Secondary School who are engaged in the Seniors Programme.

The 30th Company has come a long way, ministering to Boys from different schools over the years and proclaiming the Gospel. Many of them have turned to Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour during their times in BB or later. The BB is never just any other uniformed youth organization. It has served as a youth outreach platform providing the Boys with the necessary skills over the changing educational and economic landscape. The Boys of 10 years ago and today have different needs, different family backgrounds and expectations. Therefore, the church and the BB must be ever ready to look into these issues with a well-rounded programme that suits the Boys of today and tomorrow. We trust in the Lord to provide the wisdom and direction as we move along with the times.

Vision

The Mission of The Boys’ Brigade is: To nurture Youths, based on Christian values, to lead and serve. Our method of achieving this is by providing a fun, meaningful and challenging programme that is physical, enriching, spiritual and up-to-date with social interests, which is in turn based on Christian Education and Discipline, guided by adult Christian leaders as Officers. Increasingly, the emphasis is on leadership development, team building, life skills, adventure activities and community service.
