The GMC Youth Ministry was first conceived some twenty years ago for youth to gather together, discuss issues and to provide a place where they may find support in times of need. Though this ministry has undergone several evolutions over the many years of its existence, its aims still remain largely the same. The youth ministry seeks to be relevant to the youth in church and out of church, giving them a platform with which they may both serve and grow together in Christ. The ministry also deals with contemporary social issues affecting youth today and hopes to instruct our youth in the Christian perspective for them.

The Youth Ministry is split into two different branches – the Youth Fellowship (YF) and the Junior Youth (JY). These two branches cater to slightly different needs groups within the youth structure. Currently, youth who are aged between 13 to 16 come under the JY banner and youth aged 17 to 25 belong to YF.

What’s Up For 2006?

The YF has adopted a two-pronged approach to ministry this year. We have decided to focus on both personal growth and outreach to our friends and community this year. To achieve this end, topics covered within the CG structure have been deliberately made relevant such that they discuss contemporary issues (like drinking and smoking) and the Christian perspective on these matters. In addition, the Seeker Service and other outreach events have also been planned to ensure that our youth continue to look outwards and not forget our role in bringing the Good News to others around us. The YF also seeks to “reach 10 more for Jesus” this year, taking the cue from the Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven Life’s “reach one more for Jesus”. Youth in the CGs will be strongly and repeatedly encouraged to invite their friends to evangelistic/outreach events organised by the YF, in the hope that they would come to know more about Christ and eventually accept Him as their personal Lord and Saviour.

What’s Up For 2006?

This year we hope to encourage our Junior Youths to build a more intimate relationship with Jesus through Worship, Bible Study and their Daily Quiet Time. Through the quarterly fellowship and outreach events, we hope to build closer relationships amongst the JYs and also spur them to reach out to their friends who are pre-believers.

Mission

The Young Adults (YA) Ministry was formed in 2004. This ministry aims to provide a platform and environment for young adults to share our joys, sorrows, life experiences and knowledge. Above all, it aims to create an environment that allows us to worship God together, pray for one another and grow in the Lord both individually and as a group.

Ultimately, the members of the YA hope to be a blessing to others through serving the church in various ministries and outreach.

Structure

Bible study is conducted weekly by Pastor Seet Keng Tat. Subsequently, we break into our care groups for discussion, personal sharing and prayer. We devote one meeting once a month for prayer and intercession.

Besides the weekly YA meetings, we also organise fellowship and outreach ad-hoc events such as barbeques, mooncake parties (during Mooncake Festival) and board game events, etc.

Meetings

Weekly meetings every Thursday, at 8pm, in Seminar Room 2
